Breaking Free from Spiritual Complacency: Finding Freedom in the Spirit

Now the Lord is the Spirit,
And where the Spirit of the Lord is,
There is freedom!
2 Corinthians 3:17

Are you among those who do not truly understand, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body! (1 Corinthians 15:46, 44b). Unfortunately, we are unspiritual, having been sold as a slave to sin.

How often we do not understand what causes us to behave the way we did. What we wanted to do we didn’t do. Then, we are left weighed down by the heaviness of shame or guilt or regret for doing what we hate (Romans 7:14-15). Sadly, many come to desire the detestable, for that is what wrongdoing is (Proverbs 8:7).

Why? The whole world is under the control of the evil one (1 John 5:19b). That ancient serpent called the devil or Satan (Revelation 12:9a), who became complacent (indifferent, careless, unconcerned, unfeeling…) toward God and His Word.

Revelation 12:7 reveals what resulted when the evil of complacency was given life – a war in heaven. However, it was the seeds of complacency (pride, arrogance, self-centeredness, self-importance, self-love, egotism, conceit, selfishness, self-opinion, self-admiration….) that caused a warring (antagonistic, belligerent, contentious, aggressive, fierce, greedy, covetous, hateful) nature to erupt within.

One must wonder how awesome the Kingdom of God, for this the dragon and his angels fought. The rejection (denial, refusal, deterrence, repression, spurning…) of Love, for God is Love (1 John 4:16) caused faith in God’s Word of Truth to be nullified (cancelled, rescinded, removed…) far from this riotous one, but Satan was in error (mistake, screwup, misunderstanding…) of the Power of God. For in God’s hand is the life and breath of every creature (Job 12:10).

Satan was not strong enough, and that dragon and his angels lost their place in heaven. Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven,” Luke 10:18. Fallen and hurled down to the earth, where he leads the whole world astray (Revelation 12:9) to walk in the darkness of complacent satisfaction (psalm 82:7 AMP), which will destroy them (Proverb 1:32 ASB).

The waywardness of the naïve will kill them!
The complacency of fools will destroy them!
Those who listen to God shall live securely!
They will be at ease from the dread of evil!
Proverbs 1:32-33 NASU
