The Dance of Faith: Trusting God’s Lead

A long time ago the Lord asked me, “Kathie, would you like to dance?” My response reveals how lacking my spiritual understanding and awareness, I said, “Lord, I can’t see You, I’ll step on Your feet and hurt You.” I didn’t realize the Lord was speaking of the waltz of life.

For sure, I’ve stumbled and staggered and fallen. How many times I told the Lord, I trusted Him, only to allow my heart to take the lead and dance to the rhythm “I’ll Do It My Way.” Like gentling a wild donkey, a stubborn ass, the Lord never let go of that three corded rope of faith and hope and love that securely tethers me to God through His Word, Who always says, “Yes, I’m willing to help.”

I still catch myself following the steps of deception to deny and blame and accuse, to compare and rationalize, to minimize and excuse so I can once again take the lead and do what I think is best. Along the way I found this key: When I have done everything I can think of doing, and then experience a sudden revelation. A simple solution that causes me to shake my head and wonder, why didn’t I think of this sooner. Now is not the time to take the credit; instead, it’s time to thank Holy Spirit.

Today I shared how I’ve struggled with physical weakness, but I hope and pray my spiritual strength has been made evident. God’s Word tells us the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). And also, for the joy set before Him the Lord endured the cross, scorning its shame and its humiliation for me and for everyone who chooses to fix their eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2).

The Lord is the Author and the Perfecter of our faith. Through Him, God’s Word, we are being transformed to see ourselves as God does, to see Jesus when we look at ourselves and others. To listen and follow His lead and acknowledge His advice is the best: “Don’t put yourself in precarious positions.”

The Word Who saves is right here, as near as the tongue in your mouth, as close as the heart in your chest. It’s God’s Word of Faith that welcomes Holy Spirit to go to work and set things right for us (Romans 10:8 Message).
