“Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us
On the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
Luke 24:32
Not only as these two disciples continued on the road to Emmaus, but also when they invited the Lord to join them, Jesus was WILLING! Jesus didn’t just speak these words, “I am willing,” He continually demonstrated what truly can make a difference – Willingness.
However, as so often is the case words can be forgotten. Human nature is not a surprise to God. John 2:24-25 tells us, “Jesus would not entrust Himself to them, for He knew all men. He did not need man’s testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.”
A heart that is deceitful above all things! (Jeremiah 17:9)
When we are also willing, there are aspects of God’s glory yet to be made known and experienced that will utterly astound. Though the eyes of those two disciples were not opened to recognize the Lord, their spirit was greatly stirred by God’s Word. So much so they didn’t want this Man to leave, so the invited Him in.
Psalm 23:5a tells us the Lord has prepared a table before us in the presence of our enemies. These men prepared a table for the Lord to partake with Him. How eye-opening when the Word of Truth is consumed for then the love of God can be recognized.
Though they had asked, “Are you only a visitor, do You not know the things that have happened in Jerusalem in these days?” Luke 24:18, they were yet to realize they were visitors of Eternal Life. The second part of Psalm 23 says, “Lord, You anoint my head with oil.” God’s goodness will never cease to amaze, for His anointing oil is the gift of Holy Spirit, Who works to reveal the glory of God and His Word so when we invite God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – in to partake with them, nothing can prevent our cup from overflowing.
Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.
For My Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son
And believes in Him shall have eternal life,
And I will raise them up at the last day.”
John 17:3, John 6:40
